Food is a very emotive subject for me. As I am writing this, reminiscing over the happy, happy times I have spent at these restaurants over the years. The surroundings and ambience, the aromas, the depths of flavour and taste, the staff and service or just people watching, seeing others delight in the sumptuous food being placed before them. The use of fresh produce, locally sourced and made with only love and care, what Balinese people do best. From fine dining to simple wholesome food, it’s all here waiting for you in Bali, something to satiate every taste bud and to keep within your budget.
Located next to the Tjampuhan Bridge on the Wos River in the vibrant town of Ubud. The philosophy at Bridges is simple to offer the best possible culinary experience. In all the years I have been coming here for special romantic dinners and birthdays or even a cheeky cocktail, I have never been disappointed. The team from front of house, kitchen and serving staff just make every occasion so memorable. The magic created by Wayan and his team in the kitchen shows the pride and love he has for locally sourced produce. Whether you are here with friends for evening cocktails with the live music, a group meal, or a very cosy romantic meal for two. The wine selection is out of this world and can be paired to your meal, the team know their wines and I can still visualise the tasting menu. Whether you are eating in the Dining room or having a world class signature cocktail in the Divine Bar under the old Tjampuhan bridge. Bridges is the epitome of fine dining.
Warung Boga Sari
This quaint family owned and run restaurant has a very special place in my heart. Nestled on Jalan Raya Ubud it’s a great location. The food is just like being at home with your mothers cooking. The dining is casual and situated next to the family temple. I have some very fond memories coming here with a special someone many years ago. The food is fresh, full of flavour. Try the Bebek(duck). Oh, and don’t forget your sambal matah!
This little Warung is perfect for pre or post dive food if you are diving in Amed with Ocean Tree or just want some wholesome food. Made will make sure you leave with a full belly believe me. The Nasi Goreng here is outstanding and portion size will feed any hungry diver. The lalapan is also very very popular here. I am just happy sitting here in the morning with a Kopi Bali. Any fish dish you order here will be super fresh, the dive centre and Warung are a stone’s throw away from the beach (I can’t throw stones very far..). I had a small birthday party here in March, one of the most memorable and special birthdays I have had in a few years. The food spread was excellent and plenty of Made’s Sambal matah to keep me happy.
This great little Warung is great for sunset drinks and dinners. Mewali means welcome, and that’s exactly what you will receive. The warmest of Balinese welcomes. Kadek’s hospitality is legendary. The view is unforgettable. Kick back with an ice cold Bintang and some of Kadek’s sate.
Opened over a year ago, this superb café/brasserie across the road from Bintang supermarket in Seminyak was a life saver for me in March 2020. It became part of my daily routine, hot foamy lattes, ice cold bintangs and very filling sandwiches. The staff are super friendly and always welcoming with a smile. When I returned in March this year, David and crew were still there with the same wit and welcoming smile. It’s great for brunch, lunch, early evening bite or in my case for business meetings.
